Patong is famous for its crowds and raucous nightlife, but I recently enjoyed a quieter, relaxed side of the area staying at the Grand Mercure Phuket Patong Resort & Villas, a serene hideaway situated a little way from Patong’s bustling seafront.
The Resort features 314 rooms, comprising 252 Superior Rooms, 38 Deluxe Pool Access Rooms, 10 Suites and 14 Pool Villas. Each room features a comprehensive set of amenities and extra touches, such as guests’ choice of a walk-in rain shower, or traditional bathtub. In-room sofas and stunning pool views are included as standard.
Connecting room options are available upon request, alongside laundry and babysitting services and all rooms are equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi access and state of-the-art sound and lighting systems.
Patong itself offers shopping bazaars, a range of international eateries and many of Phuket’s most exciting nightlife venues all within walking distance.
Excursions to outlying islands and incredible diving and snorkeling sites are easily arranged from Patong and there’s a regular complimentary shuttle service to the Beach.
After catching up on e-mails, I decided on a treatment at the hotel’s “Ryn Spa”, which recently won the World Luxury Spa Award in the category of “Luxury Emerging Spas in Asia”.
I was welcomed by the spa specialist who provided me with great hospitality and honest, straightforward advice about the exact treatment I needed.
I enjoyed the “Free as a Bird” massage which revived me using one of Ryn Spa’s core products, “Tropical Mae Ping” – a fine concoction of premium ingredients which, paired with the special massage technique, left me with a truly blissful mind and body.
The Resort offers a fabulous array of different cuisines such as the regular Phuket’s Night Market Buffet Dinner every Monday at Bubbles Restaurant featuring a lavish mix of Phuket original recioes and an endless selection of signature local Thai cuisine, for only THB 799 per person.
Or embark on a journey to the four corners of Asia with a lavish array of Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Oriental recipes with Oriental Buffet Dinner every Wednesday for only THB 999 per person.
Then there’s a fabulous selection of local and imported gourmet seafood such as fresh scampi, rock lobsters, French oysters and Japanese sashimi, plus barbecued snapper and Blue Crabs. The Chefs also prepare grilled Australian sirloin and New Zealand lamb chops to satisfy every palate for Grand Seafood Barbecue every Friday at only THB 1,399 per person.
Grand Mercure Phuket Patong Resort & Villas was certainly the right choice for my long weekend escape combining luxury, tranquility and the excitement of Patong in equal measure!
